Autograph letter signed, dated : Weimar, 9 September 1876, to [Mrs. Gustav Schirmer], 1876 Sept. 9.

Thanking her for the silver laurel wreath that she gave to [Richard] Wagner, saying that Mrs. Schirmer has now received the written thanks of Frau [Cosima] Wagner along with a photograph and signature "des grossen, hehren Ton und Wort Dichter der den 'Ring des Nibelungen' geschaffen und wunderbarer in Bayreuth zur Aufführung brachte," saying that although he resists writing letters of recommendation he will make an exception and recommend Irma Steinacker, the daughter of his friend Pastor [Gustav] Steinacker, who studied with Liszt in Budapest and Weimar and who has been offered a position as piano teacher at Wells College, in Aurora, N.Y., adding that he would gladly help Mrs. Schirmer's talented protégé Martha Blanke but needs to know more about her since he does not like to indulge in blanket recommendations, etc.
